Focusing too much on ourselves?
This situation concern lack of One Skanska cooperation in a bidding process.
Text version scenario
One Skanska collaboration is key to leverage the company and harness our combined strengths. Solely focusing on individual business unit may negatively impact overall project and company success. One of our district managers recently expressed deep concern about this.
In a resent bid where he was involved together with two other Skanska teams he observed that focus on individual unit’s success caused problems of non-cooperation and lack of transparency. He felt that the Skanska teams did not cooperate in a smart way and missed opportunities to lower the customer’s overall project cost.
With this attitude he said, we will miss opportunities to bring more business to Skanska overall.

We can learn from these situations to help us truly live our values. We can consider the following actions:
- Spend enough time upfront –during the sales process- to clearly understand the overall big picture for Skanska and the customer.
- Spend time together with the colleagues from all effected units thinking about collaborative ways to address business unit interests AND Skanska’s overall interests.
- Display courage in expressing the right thing, even when it may not be popular with other members of your department.
